Canadian head coach Even Pellerud has selected 18 players for the tournament, which is part of his ongoing preparations for qualifying for the 2003 Women’s World Cup, being held in China.

CONCACAF qualifying for the 2003 Women’s World Cup will coincide with the Women’s Gold Cup, which will be held in late October and early November. The two finalists will be guaranteed berths in the World Cup with the third-place finisher playing a playoff against a team from Asia for a place in the tournament.

This is certainly a more experienced team than the one we took to the Algarve Cup in March,” said Pellerud. “However we are still missing some key players such as Silvana Burtini, Christine Latham and Candace Chapman as well as Christine Sinclair (who will join the team after their first game on April 3). There are some concerns about the attacking part of my roster but I still have a lot of experienced players like Charmaine Hooper and new additions in Kara Lang and Amber Allen. I am looking forward to the tournament which should be a strong contest for us.”

Two members of Canada’s Under-19 squad, Carmelina Moscato and Brittany Timko, will be making their Women’s World Cup team debuts.

Matches – France International Tournament Schedule

Wednesday April 3, 2002 – Poitiers (Stadium “de la Pépinière”)

17:00ttAustralia/Canada

19:30ttFrance/Japan

Saturday April 6, 2002 – Angoulême ( Stadium “Lebon”)

16:00ttJapan/Australia

18:15ttFrance/Canada

Tuesday April 9, 2002 – Limoges (Stadium- TBC)

17:00ttCanada/Japan

19:30ttFrance/Australia

Canadian Women’s World Cup Team Roster For Tournament In France

NamettPos.tHometowntCaps D.O.B.tClub

Erin McLeodtGKtCalgary, ABt3tt02/26/63tSouthern Methodist U.

Karina LeBlanctGKtMaple Ridge, BCt17t03/30/80tBoston Breakers

Breanna BoydtDtEdmonton, ABt28t06/10/81tUniversity of Nebraska

Sharolta NonentDtVancouver, BCt26t12/30/77tAtlanta Beat

Isabelle MorneautDtLongueuil, QCt47t04/18/76tunattached

Kara LangtDtOakville, ONt4tt10/22/86tOakville

Isabelle HarveytDtHautrive, QCt40t03/27/75tSouthern Calfornia Ajax

Cindy TyetMtMt.
