Ottawa, Ontario – Canadian Women’s World Cup Team Head Coach Even Pellerud has named 19-players for the Four Nation Women’s Tournament China 2004 hosted by the Chinese Football Association (CFA) from January 30th to February 4th. The team will assemble in Vancouver on Friday, January 23rd for a warm up camp prior to leaving for China on Monday, January 26th.

Canada will compete against China PR, Sweden, and the United States. Canada received their first invitation to the annual tournament after Germany and Norway backed out. The competition will be played on a “Single Round Robin” format.

“Due to the team’s performance at the Women’s World Cup 2003, we received this opportunity to replace Norway in this prestigious Four Nation Tournament in China. The three games against China, USA and Sweden will provide the best possible game experience leading up to the Olympic qualifier in Costa Rica next month, as they will come with their best teams and offer excellent competition,” said Pellerud.

“Going to China will also serve as a great opportunity for our first stage of preparation for the next Women’s World Cup, to be played in China in 2007.”

The roster is comprised of 15-players from the recent 2003 Women’s World Cup roster.

Calgary native Aysha Jamani will join the senior squad for the first time. Jamani recently started in all three Under-19 games against Trinidad & Tobago and amassed four goals. Ottawa Fury and University of Tennessee midfielder/defender Marie-Eve Nault, of Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, who was invited to Pellerud’s last camp held in December of 2003 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was also added to the roster. Veronique Maranda of Montreal who played her last game with the senior team against Brazil on July 17, 2003 will return for this tournament.

“Unfortunately the team still suffers from a number of injuries; Candace Chapman and Breanna Boyd still need more time, Christine Latham and Kara Lang are injured at the moment and will not travel with the team. This gives us room to look at other players like Marie-Eve Nault and Aysha Jamani. Randee Hermus is back in the squad again after her World Cup bone fractures,” added Pellerud.

Games

01/30/04tUSA vs Sweden

ttChina PR vs Canada

02/01/04tCanada vs. Sweden

ttChina PR vs USA

02/03/04tUSA vs Canada

ttChina vs Sweden

Roster

PlayertClub/AffiliationtDOBtPositiontHometown/Province

Andrews, SashatUniversity of Nebraska t2/14/83 tDtEdmonton, Alberta

Harvey, IsabelletAjax of Californiat3/27/75 tMFtHauteRive, Quebec

Hermus, RandeetVancouver Whitecapst11/14/79 tDtVancouver, BC

Neil, AndreatVancouver Whitecapstt11/26/71 tMFtVancouver, BC

Hooper, CharmainetAtlanta Beatt1/15/68 tF/DtOttawa, Ontario

Jamani, AyshatSouthwest Unitedt6/28/87 tFtCalgary, Alberta

LeBlanc, KarinatBoston Breakerst3/30/80 tGKtMaple Ridge, BC

Maranda, VeroniquetSelecte Rive-Sudt8/18/86 tMFtSaint Lambert, Quebec

Matheson, DianatToronto Infernot4/06/84 tMFtOakville, ON

McLeod, ErintVancouver Whitecapst2/26/83 tGKtCalgary, Alberta

Morneau, IsabelletOttawa Furyt4/18/76 tDtLongueuil, Quebec

Moscato, CarmelinatVancouver Whitecapst5/02/84 tMFtMississauga, Ontario

Nault, Marie-EvetUniversity of Tennessee t2/16/82 tMF/DtTrois-Rivieres, Quebec

Nonen, SharoltatAtlanta Beatt12/30/77 tDtVancouver, BC

Sinclair, ChristinetVancouver Whitecapst6/12/83 tFtBurnaby, BC

Swiatek, TaryntOttawa Furyt2/04/81 tGKtCalgary, Alberta

Wilkinson, RhiantOttawa Furyt5/12/82 tMF/FtBaie D’Urfe, Quebec

Timko, Brittany tUniversity of Nebraska t9/05/85 tMFtVancouver, BC

Dennis, TanyatUniversity of Nebraska t8/26/85 tDtMississauga, ON

Staff

Laurel PokoyskitHead of Delegation

Even PellerudtHead Coach

Ian BridgetAssistant Coach

Shel BrodsgaardtGoalkeeper Coach

Kim SebrangotManager

Dr. Cathy CampbelltTeam Doctor

Holly MairtEquipment Manager/Massage Therapist

Jillanta ProctortOfficial

Greg BaytTherapist
",
