Vancouver Whitecaps FC win their fourth-straight Voyageurs Cup
Whitecaps win the 2025 TELUS Canadian Championship
Vancouver Whitecaps FC lifted the Voyageurs Cup for the fourth year in a row after they won 4:2 over Vancouver FC in the 2025 TELUS Canadian Championship Final. Ali Ahmed (two), Thomas Müller and Ryan Gauld scored for the winners in front of 18,372 spectators at BC Place in Vancouver.
Whitecaps became just the second team to win the TELUS Canadian Championship four years in a row, following in the footsteps of Toronto FC who won consecutive titles from 2009 to 2012. With the win, the club qualified for the 2026 edition of Concacaf Champions Cup.
Ahmed won the George Gross Memorial Trophy as the competition's most valuable player while Jayden Nelson won the Best Young Player Award. FIFA World Cup champion Müller, who started the match with the captain's armband before Gauld made a triumphant return from injury, was also one of three players that hit the Vancouver FC post (after opportunities from Emmanuel Sabbi and Sebastian Berhalter).
Ahmed and Müller gave Whitecaps FC the 2-0 lead after 10 minutes, then Thierno Bah scored for Vancouver FC and Ahmed made it 3-1 in the 37th minute. Gauld made it 4-1 in the 83rd minute less than five minutes after he entered the match, then Nicolás Mezquida scored for Vancouver FC.
Vancouver Whitecaps FC dressed 31 different players across their five matches in the TELUS Canadian Championship, 28 of which were still with the club in October when they lifted the Voyageurs Cup. In the Canadian Final, coach Jesper Sørensen started Isaac Boehmer (goal), Tate Johnson, Belal Halbouni, Mathias Laborda, Emmanuel Sabbi, Sebastian Berhalter, Thomas Müller, Édier Ocampo, Adrian Cubas, Ali Ahmed, and Ryan Elloumi, then featured Kenji Cabrera, Ryan Gauld, Jayden Nelson, Ralph Priso and Giuseppe Bovalina as substitutes.
The 18th edition of the TELUS Canadian Championship featured a record 15 clubs including first-time participants Edmonton Scottish United SC and Milton's Scrosoppi FC. The 20 matches were played across four rounds in 11 different stadiums from 29 April to 1 October. Atlético Ottawa reached the Semifinals for the first time while Vancouver FC went one step further and reached the Canadian Final for the first time.
The TELUS Canadian Championship brings together clubs from Major League Soccer, the Canadian Premier League, and League1 Canada to determine Canada’s best team in the annual Battle of the North. Winners of the domestic TELUS Canadian Championship qualify for the annual international competition Concacaf Champions Cup on the road to the FIFA Club World Cup.
