Toronto FC has announced its annual award winners at its year-end “90th Minute” party in Toronto, ON. Canadian defender Adrian Cann was named Toronto FC Most Valuable Player, Stefan Frei was named Toronto FC Humanitarian of the Year, and Dwayne De Rosario again won Toronto FC Golden Boot honours (15 goals).

“I am honoured to receive the award,” said Cann. “It is a surprise to me because a lot of players had a very good year. It was great to be back playing at home this year with lots of support from my family and friends. The fans have been incredible and nothing compares to them in MLS.”

Cann made 26 MLS appearances for Toronto FC, every time as one of Toronto FC’s starting XI. The centre back also helped Toronto FC win its second-straight Nutrilite Canadian Championship to again qualify for CONCACAF Champions League.

De Rosario set a club record with 15 goals in 28 games during the 2009 MLS regular season. He also scored three goals during the 2009 Nutrilite Canadian Championship and won the George Gross Memorial Trophy as most valuable player. His three goals in the last match of the tournament helped Toronto FC capture the 2009 Voyageurs Cup.

This was Cann’s first season with Toronto FC. He previously played for Canadian clubs Vancouver Whitecaps FC and Impact Montréal. In 2010, he also took part in one camp with Canada’s national team, taking part in the 31 January Men’s International Friendly match against Jamaica.
