Tickets go on sale for 10 July match at BMO Field

In just six short weeks, Canada’s top female soccer players should get the ovation they deserve from one of the country’s best soccer crowds. In six weeks, Canada’s women’s national team will get to play its first match at BMO Field in Toronto.

​Tickets to the Thursday 10 July match against Brazil are now on sale to the general public. Tickets range in price from $15-$40 and are available through Ticketmaster (ticketmaster.ca or 416.872.5000).

​“I am very excited about this game,” says head coach Even Pellerud. “We feel very good right now. Last year, we had a race against time and injuries. This year, we have been very fortunate with more players coming back and getting stronger.”

​The 10 July match at BMO Field will be the women’s team’s first trip to Toronto since 25 June 2006 (a 2:1 win over Italy at Centennial Stadium). The 10 July match will also be Canada’s first home match since finishing second at the 2008 CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualification Tournament, a result that secured Canada’s first-ever berth in the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament.

​Canada, whose title sponsor is Winners and whose presenting sponsor is Teck Cominco, was recently ranked 9th in the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings. Brazil is currently ranked 4th. Both Canada and Brazil have also established top-four finishes at a FIFA Women’s World Cup – Canada in 2003 (4th) and Brazil in 2007 (2nd). Both countries have also qualified for the Olympics in Beijing.
