Samaniego and He named Most Valuable Players

Toronto's Christian Samaniego and Montréal's Shayla He were named the Most Valuable Players at the 2026 Futsal Canadian Championship. Samaniego led 9 de Octubre to their third Canadian title in four years while National Team hero He led Sporting Montréal FC to their first Canadian title.

Samaniego, now a five-time Canadian champion, recorded a goal and three assists in four games at the Futsal Canadian Championship in Calgary. He had an assist on the opening day, two more assists on the second day, and then scored the match-winning goal in the Canadian Final against Atlético Gatineau.

He led Montréal with five goals and an assist in four games, including a hat trick in the Canadian Final against Saskatoon Green & White. She also had a goal and an assist on the opening day, then scored the match winner in the Semifinals against Windsor Caboto SC.

The 2026 Futsal Canadian Championship was hosted by Calgary United Soccer Association in partnership with Tourism Calgary. A proven host city that features world-class facilities and friendly volunteers, the Blue Sky City will again be the destination for the best futsal clubs in Canada.

This year marked the 10th edition of the Futsal Canadian Championship and it was the first edition to feature Quarterfinals and Semifinals for both the men’s and women’s divisions. The enhanced format offered a full four days of competition with meaningful matches for all participating teams, culminating with the two Canadian Finals on Sunday 12 April.
