Akindele, who was part of Canada’s Provisional Roster for the
\u200bConcacaf Gold Cup, joined Canada from Orlando City SC after his Thursday night
\u200bleague match. The former FC Dallas forward has been part of Canada Soccer’s Men’s
\u200bNational Team Program since 2015 and was the top-scoring Canadian in Major
\u200bLeague Soccer in both 2014 and 2019.

This marks the first time that Canada has reached the
\u200bConcacaf Gold Cup Quarterfinals in three successive tournaments. This Sunday’s
\u200bmatch will kick off at 18.00 local at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX
\u200b(19.00 ET / 16.00 PT). All of Canada’s matches at the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup

CANADA SOCCER’S MEN’S NATIONAL TEAM PROGRAM: Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team are two-time
\u200bConcacaf champions, previously winning the 1985 Concacaf Championship and 2000
\u200bConcacaf Gold Cup. This year marks Canada’s 15th participation at the Concacaf
\u200bGold Cup since 1991. Along with their first-place finish in 2000, Canada
\u200breached the Semifinals in 2002 and 2007. Across the past five years from 2017
\u200bto 2021, Canada are one of only four nations that have finished top-six across
\u200ball three Concacaf major tournaments: fifth place in Concacaf Nations League A
\u200band sixth place at both the 2017 and 2019 Concacaf Gold Cups.
