Stephen Eustáquio and Jordyn Huitema named Canada Soccer’s Players of the Month for May 2023

Stephen Eustáquio and Jordyn Huitema were named Canada Soccer’s Players of the Month for May 2023. Midfielder Eustáquio contributed to his club FC Porto’s Semi-Final win to advance to the Taça de Portugal final, while Huitema scored three goals for OL Reign in the month of May.

Eustáquio helped FC Porto advance to the Taça de Portugal Final following a 3:2 win over FC Famalicão on 4 May. In the five May matches with the club, Eustáquio played 349’ minutes in all competitions helping FC Porto secure a five-match win streak. Eustáquio’s FC Porto completed their Taça de Portugal campaign ​ ​ by lifting the trophy in a 2:0 win over SC Braga on 4 June.

Huitema, meanwhile, played in all five of OL Reign’s May matches, as they currently sit top of their Group in the NWSL Challenge Cup. Huitema scored three times and had one assist for her club this month, including in ​ a2:1 win over Houston Dash in regular season play on 6 May and in their 3:0 win against San Diego Wave in the NWSL Challenge Cup on 31 May. OL Reign’s next match will be against Portland Thorns on 10 June.

Looking ahead to June, Eustáquio and Canada Soccer Men’s National Team will play their next match against Panama on June 15th in the Concacaf Nations League Semi-Finals. Huitema and Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team will head to Australia at the end of June to prepare for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023. Canada’s first group-stage match will be against Nigeria on Thursday 20 July.
