Soccer New Brunswick has announced its annual award winners. The two big winners were 2008 Players of the Year Galen Smith and Renelle Savoie.



Other award winners were Volunteer of the Year Danny Gallan, Manager of the Year Kim Boucher, Coach of the Year Mark Meihuizen, Referee of the Year Rolland Belliveau, and Teams of the Year (co-winners) Fundy U18 Girls and FC Chaleur U14 Girls.



Smith plays for the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds and the Fredericton Picaroons Reds. The 6’4″ forward helped UNB finish first in the 2008 Atlantic University Sport men’s soccer regular season. The team lost 0:1 in the AUS final. With the Fredericton Picaroons Reds, he helped his club finish fifth in the Nova Scotia Soccer League Premiership. He was named an NSSL All Star after finishing second in league scoring with 13 goals.



Savoie is the first two-time winner of the Soccer NB’s Player of the Year award. She spent the 2008 season with the Balmoral U14 Girls team. She helped Balmoral to a perfect 14-0 season while leading the Northern New Brunswick Youth Soccer League with 33 goals in 12 games.
