The game has been confirmed at Centennial Stadium now that the strike by City of Toronto workers is over.

The game will pit Canadian head coach Even Pellerud against the team he led to a World Cup Championship in 1995 and will involve several intriguing match-ups as both teams feature prominent WUSA players.

Canadian goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc will face Boston Breakers teammate Dagny Mellgren while the Norwegians also boast Carolina Courage midfielder/forward Hege Riise and the New York Power’s Linda Ormen. Mellgren is fourth in league scoring with 10 goals and two assists in 14 games while Riise is seventh with five goals and 10 assists in 13 games Canada’s other WUSA players are the Atlanta Beat’s Sharolta Nonen and Charmaine Hooper, who is eighth in goal scoring with six goals in 12 games.

Pellerud’s squad includes no less than seven players who are on the Canadian Under-19 team preparing for the upcoming FIFA U-19 Women’s World Championship, including Toronto’s Candace Chapman and 15-year-old Oakville native Kara Lang. Forward Ashley McGhee has earned her first call-up to the Women’s World Cup Team. The 23-year-old plays for the Hampton Roads Piranhas in the W-League.

“I consider this roster to be one of the strongest that I’ve had,” said Pellerud. “With seven Under-19 players there is a good balance between young and older players and it is an exciting roster in my opinion. Knowing that Norway are the current the Olympic Gold Medallists, this is a real test on the progress we have made. It will be a good kick-off for our preparations for the Gold Cup (in October).”

Canadian Women’s World Cup Team Roster

No.tNamettPos.t HometowntCaps tD.O.B.tClub

22tErin McLeodtGKttCalgary, ABt4tt26/2/63tSouthern Methodist U.

1tKarina LeBlanctGKttMaple Ridge, BCt19tt30/3/80tBoston Breakers

9tSasha AndrewstDttEdmonton, ABt4tt14/2/83tSouthern Methodist U.

4tBreanna BoydtDttEdmonton, ABt30tt10/6/81tUniversity of Nebraska

6tSharolta NonentDttVancouver, BCt29tt30/12/77tAtlanta Beat

7tIsabelle MorneautDttLongueuil, QCt50tt18/4/76tOttawa Fury

15tKara LangtDttOakville, ONt7tt22/10/86tOakville

12tIsabelle HarveytDttHautrive, QCt43tt27/3/75tSouthern California Ajax

2tCindy TyetMttMt.
