“Volunteers provided vital support to community clubs and
\u200bacademies from coast-to-coast in the face of the global coronavirus pandemic
\u200bduring a difficult 2020 Canadian soccer season,” said Dr. Nick Bontis, Canada
\u200bSoccer President. “By supporting Canada Soccer’s Return-to-Soccer Guidelines,
\u200bdeveloped in collaboration with and in support of our Member Associations, the
\u200b2020 Canada Soccer Nation Champions presented by Toyota recipients exemplified
\u200bthe dedication and sacrifice that merit recognition of the countless volunteers
\u200bwho support the game in this country.”
After announcing the suspension of all sanctioned soccer in
\u200bMarch 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Canada Soccer, led by its
\u200bMedical Committee and in collaboration with its Member Associations, set
\u200bforward its Return-to-Soccer Guidelines in support of the development of Public
\u200bHealth protocols guiding the safe return to in-person training and soccer
\u200bactivity.
Member Organizations across the country were guided by the
\u200bprotocols developed and as such were required to facilitate a soccer experience
\u200bin consideration of the safety measures required to ensure safe sport. Canada
\u200bSoccer launched Canada Soccer Nation Champions presented by Toyota in
\u200brecognition of the extraordinary circumstances and corresponding requirements.

\u200bpresented by Toyota are:
Alberta: Roxanne Boyce – St. Albert Soccer Association
\u200bBritish Columbia: Spiro Pegios – Surrey United Soccer Club
\u200bManitoba: Bobbi Schram – Westman Regional Soccer Association
\u200bNova Scotia: Lindsay Van Kessel – Thunder FC
\u200bPrince Edward Island: Kara Sabean – Kensington Soccer
\u200bOntario: Dan De Maria – Guelph Soccer
\u200bQuebec: Benoît Brabant – Deltas de Laval
\u200bSaskatchewan: Chad Striker – Swift Current Soccer Association
Nominations for Canada Soccer Nation Champions were open to
\u200bMember Organization clubs and academies to nominate volunteers that met all of
\u200bCanada Soccer’s Safe Sport Roster considerations including a valid background
\u200bcheck, up-to-date Respect Group, Inc. training credentials, and the Member
\u200bOrganization being a member in good standing of a Canada Soccer Member
\u200bAssociation.
