Ready for kick-off in 2013 edition of Amway Canadian Championship

The road to Canadian club supremacy begins Wednesday 24 April in Toronto and Edmonton with a pair of opening-day clashes in the 2013 Amway Canadian Championship.

Canada’s four professional clubs – Toronto FC, Vancouver Whitecaps FC, FC Edmonton and Impact Montréal, are set to do battle for the Voyageurs Cup and the right to represent Canada in the 2013-2014 CONCACAF Champions League.

The opening-night action will feature both semi-finals getting underway live on all four Sportsnet regional channels with four-time defending champions Toronto FC hosting Impact Montréal at BMO Field in Toronto (19.45 ET / 16.45 PT); and FC Edmonton hosting Vancouver Whitecaps FC at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton (19.45 local; 21.45 ET / 18.45 PT).

The semi-finals will be contested over two legs (home-and-away, away goals rule in effect) to set-up the Amway Canadian Championship final, also to be played over two matches, on 15 and 29 May.

The winner of the 2013 Amway Canadian Championship will go on to be Canada’s lone representative in the CONCACAF Champions League.

“Amway Canada is proud to once again be the title sponsor for the Amway Canadian Championship,” Lydia Ayora, Amway Canada’s Country Manager explained. “As title sponsor since the inception of the Championship, we are excited for the start of the 2013 competition and are looking forward to being a part of every exciting moment.”

All matches in the 2013 Amway Canadian Championship will be broadcast live in Canada on Sportsnet.
Fans can follow additional coverage of the competition on the official tournament web-site at migmultidev-canada-soccer.pantheonsite.io/championship. Highlights from all matches will be available on CanadaSoccerTV.

The 2013 edition of the tournament features 27 eligible Canadian players; six of those players have already been called into action for Canada’s Men’s National Team.

Seeding for the 2013 semi-final match-ups was determined by the final league positions (MLS, NASL) of teams from the 2012 season. (1. Vancouver Whitecaps FC – 2. Impact Montréal – 3. Toronto FC – 4. FC Edmonton).
