    "body": "<p>Ottawa, Ontario &ndash; The Canadian Soccer Association today announced that Randy Samuel, former team captain and all time cap leader for the Men&rsquo;s World Cup Team, will be presented with the 2001 Aubrey Sanford Meritorious Award on May 12 at the 89th Canadian Soccer Association Annual General Meeting in Calgary, Alberta. The Association presents this award to one who exemplifies outstanding commitment and achievement to the cause of Canadian soccer.<br>\u200b<br>\u200bSamuel joined the full national team in 1983 when he made his debut against Honduras in San Pedro Sula, Honduras and represented Canada a record 82 times before his retirement from international competition in 1997. Samuel was also part of the national team, which competed at the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico. Samuel has had a celebrated career, playing in Holland (with Clubs such as PSV Eindhoven of the Dutch Honour Division), England and in the A-League.<br>\u200b<br>\u200b&ldquo;We are pleased to present this prestigious award to the most capped player in the history of this Association. Randy was a player who demonstrated commitment, skill, intelligence and dedication.
