Prince Edward Island announces its 2011 award winners

The Prince Edward Island Soccer Association has announced its 2011 award winners at its annual awards banquet. Simon Hood and Sara Stewart were the big winners as the male and female Senior Players of the Year.

Other award winners were Junior Players of the Year were James Mallard and Megan Thornburn; Coach of the Year Melis Visser; Junior Referee of the Year Ellen Burnett; Senior Referee of the Year Cory Deagle; Administrator of the Year Tammy Wall; Volunteer of the Year Bernier Dykerman; winner of the Lowell Stewart Memorial Award Keira Cody; Team of the Year Winslow-Charlottetown Royals FC-U14 Boys.

Last year’s Junior Player of the Year, Simon Hood stepped up at the highest level to claim the Senior Player of the Year award. Hood captained Holland College and was named as a 1st team Atlantic All-Conference player.

A defender with outstanding tackling ability, defender Sara Stewart again served as captian for UPEI during the 2011 season. Stewart was also named as a AUS all-star and a 2nd team CIS All-Canadian.
