There are perhaps no surprises in the roster announced by Peruvian head coach Sergio Markarian, released today in advance of this coming week’s 4 September Men’s International Friendly match at BMO Field in Toronto. Coach Markarian has called 22 players for his first two matches in charge, the 4 September match against Canada and the 7 September match against Jamaica in Fort Lauderdale, USA.

The Peruvian roster was announced one day after Canadian coach Stephen Hart announced his roster for the 4 September match against Peru and the 7 September match against Honduras in Montréal, QC. Tickets to both Canadian matches are available now: Ticketmaster (Ticketmaster.ca / 416.872.5000) for the Canada-Peru match in Toronto or ADMISSION (ADMISSION.com / 514.790.1245) for the Canada-Honduras match in Montréal.

“Both teams (Peru and Honduras) have new managers, so it is very difficult to say what they will do when they come to Canada,” said national head coach Stephen Hart. From Peru’s roster, coach Hart identified three players to watch: midfielder Juan Vargas of Italy’s ACF Fiorentina, forward Jefferson Farfán of Germany’s FC Schalke 04, and forward Claudio Pizarro of SV Werder Bremen.

This will mark Peru’s first-ever visit to Canada. The South American nation had a record of three wins, no draws and eight losses in 2009, although much of that was played against tough continental opponents in FIFA World Cup™ Qualifiers. Peru’s last international match was 18 November 2009, incidentally a 2:1 victory over Honduras.
