The Prince Edward Island Soccer Association announced its annual award winners in Charlottetown today. Michel Daoust (male) and Kristina Weatherbie (female) were named senior players of the year while Dan McAleer (male) and Kayla Balderston (female) were named youth players of the year.



Daoust represented Velvet Underground at the 2007 BMO National Championships Senior Men’s Challenge Cup in Halifax, NS (Hyundai Cup) in October. He also won a bronze medal with the University of Western Ontario at the CIS Championship. Just three years ago, Daoust was the PEISA Junior Player of the Year. Weatherbie, meanwhile, was the AUS Most Valuable Player after a terrific season with the University of Cape Breton.



McAleer won a bronze medal with PEI Winsloe Blues at the 2007 BMO National Championships U-18 Boys Club Championship in Fredericton, NB (Sony Cup). He was also a rookie at the University of Prince Edward Island. Balderston, meanwhile, first represented her province at the 2007 BMO National Championships U-16 Girls All-Star Selects in July and then played for Piazza Joe’s – Eliot River SC at the 2007 BMO National Championships Senior Women’s Club Championship in Halifax, NS (Jubilee Trophy) in October.



Other award presentations were team of the year (Winsloe West-Royalty Blues U-18 boys), coach of the year (Wally Morrison), senior official of the year (Mike Connolly), youth official of the year (Ernesto Carranza), administrator of the year (Kenny Martin), Alan Godfrey volunteer of the year (Sam Jeyes), and Lowell Stewart Memorial Award (Vanessa French and Maigan Newson).
