Milan Borjan and Cloé Lacasse named Canada Soccer’s Players of the Month for April 2023

Milan Borjan and Cloé Lacasse were named Canada Soccer’s Players of the Month for April 2023. Goalkeeper Borjan won his sixth Serbian League Title with club FK Crvena zvezda (Red Star Belgrade), while forward Lacasse lifted her third Taça da Liga Feminina cup with Benfica following a 3:1 win against Braga.

Borjan helped FK Crvena zvezda win their sixth straight Serbian League title in April, helping them qualify for a Group Stage spot in the 2023/2024 Champions League. In his three April matches with club, Borjan played 270 minutes and secured two clean sheets, helping FK Crvena zvezda hold a four-match winning streak. Borjan’s next match at club will be against FK Volvodina in the Serbian Cup Quarter-Finals on May 3rd.

Lacasse, meanwhile, helped Benfica win their third Taça da Liga Feminina (League Cup) since it was first founded in 2020. Lacasse helped Benfica secure two wins this month by scoring four goals and providing four assists, while also reaching an important milestone of 100 goals for club in just her fourth season with Benfica. Lacasse also earned Player of the Match honours in Benfica’s 6:0 win over Ouriense on 23 April. Benfica currently sits at the top of Portugal’s Campeonato Nacional Feminino league standings.

Looking ahead to June, Borjan and Canada Soccer Men’s National Team will play their next match against Panama on June 15th in the Concacaf Nations League Semi-Finals. Lacasse and Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team will head to Australia at the end of June to prepare for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023. Canada’s first group stage match will be against Nigeria on Thursday 20 July.
