May 2012: Canada remains ranked 9th in CONCACAF

Canada unchanged with 450 points, 75th overall on global ranking.

Canada remained ranked ninth in CONCACAF on the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking. With only eight international matches played in the world in the past month, there was indeed very little movement by the more-than 200 countries worldwide. Canada remained unchanged at 450 points and 75th overall on the world ranking.

The FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking looks at each country’s international results from the last four years. The ranking takes into account the result, the importance of the match, the strength of the opponent, the regional strength, the time period, and the number of matches per year. Matches played more than a year ago are valued 50% of matches played in the last year; matches played more than two years ago are valued at 30% while matches played more than three years ago are valued at 20%.

In CONCACAF, only Jamaica skipped ahead of Panama amongst the top-10 teams in the confederation. Mexico, USA and El Salvador remain the top-three teams in the region, followed by Jamaica, Panama, Costa Rica, Honduras, Haiti, Canada and Trinidad and Tobago.

The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published on 6 June 2012.
