Mauro Biello honoured on CF Montréal Wall of Fame

Montréal hero Mauro Biello has been honoured by his former club on the CF Montréal Wall of Fame. Biello was honoured on Saturday 16 July ahead of the team’s 2022 home match against Toronto FC at Stade Saputo. Biello is the fourth player honoured on the CF Montréal Wall of Fame after Nevio Pizzolitto (2018), Gabriel Gervais (2018) and Greg Sutton (2019).

Biello, a former captain whose number 20 was retired by the club, won five Commissioner’s Cups as A-League / USL First Division regular season winners (1995, 1996, 1997, 2005, 2006), three APSL / USL First Division Championships (1994, 2004, 2009), and the first edition of the Canadian Championship (2008). He was the team’s captain from 2002 to 2009.

Biello, one of the club’s original members in 1993, was a four-time Giuseppe Saputo Trophy winner as the club’s Most Valuable Player (1997, 1998, 2001 and 2005). He retired in 2009 ranked as the club’s all-time leader in matches, minutes, goals and assists.

After his retirement, Biello served as the club’s assistant coach and later as Head Coach from 2015 to 2017. He was an assistant coach when Montréal won the Canadian Championship in 2013 and 2014 and then finished runners up in 2014-15 Concacaf Champions League. As Head Coach in the MLS Playoffs, he helped Montréal reach the Quarter-Finals in 2015 and the Semi-Finals in 2016.

Alongside his professional career, Biello represented Canada in two cycles of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers and one edition of Concacaf Gold Cup Qualifiers. Since 2018, he has served as an Assistant Coach with Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team, notably helping Canada qualify for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and finish first overall in the Concacaf Final Round.
