March 2012: Canada ranked 9th amongst CONCACAF teams
Upcoming group opponents Canada, Cuba, Honduras and Panama all drop points in late February.
Canada slipped to ninth spot in CONCACAF in the most recent FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking published on 7 March 2012. The new ranking included Canada’s most recent 1:2 defeat to Armenia on Wednesday 29 February 2012. Canada had been level with Haiti at 469 points, but Canada fell to 443 points while Haiti moved into a higher position with unchanged 469 points.
The FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking looks at each country’s international results from the last four years. The ranking takes into account the result, the importance of the match, the strength of the opponent, the regional strength, the time period, and the number of matches per year. Matches played more than a year ago are valued 50% of matches played in the last year; matches played more than two years ago are valued at 30% while matches played more than three years ago are valued at 20%.
In all, 91 international matches were played in between the February and March rankings. São Tomé e Príncipe made the biggest jump (175 points and 53 ranks) while Bosnia-Herzegovina made the biggest drop (70 points). The world’s top-10 features Spain, Netherlands, Germany, Uruguay, Brazil, England, Portugal, Argentina, Italy and Croatia.
The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published on 11 April 2012.
