Canadian forward Lucas Cavallini has joined Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles for the back half of the 2022-23 Liga MX season in Mexico. A Canadian Championship winner at Vancouver Whitecaps FC, Cavallini returns to Mexico four matches into the “Clausura” after spending the past three seasons in Major League Soccer.

Cavallini represented Canada at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 after helping Canada finish first overall in the Concacaf Final Round of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. It was Canada’s first trip back to the men’s FIFA World Cup in 36 years. Ranked tied for fifth all-time with 18 international “A” goals in 35 career matches, Cavallini set a joint Men’s National Team goalscoring record in 2019 when he scored eight goals (a record since broken). Two years ago, he helped Canada reach the semifinals at the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup.

Cavallini co-led all Canadians in MLS goalscoring in 2022 and finished second two years earlier in 2020. Before joining Vancouver, he spent two and a half seasons at Puebla FC in Liga MX. Since 2012, he has scored more than 100 goals for country and club, including league and cup matches in Uruguay, Mexico and Canada. He won the Canadian Championship with Vancouver in 2022.

Cavallini has been a member of Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team since 2012 and has represented the country at one FIFA World Cup, two cycles of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, three editions of the Concacaf Gold Cup, and two editions of Concacaf Nations League.
