London Alliance FC Galaxy won the 2022 Ontario Cup women’s provincial championship on Saturday night with a 2:1 victory over the King City Royals. Gulia Geraci scored the early 1-0 opener direct from a corner kick while teammate Laura Gibons scored the 2:1 winner for the London, Ontario side. By winning the provincial final, London Alliance FC Galaxy qualified for Canada Soccer’s 2022 Toyota National Championships.

In the Saturday Final, coach Abe Hadzic’s starting XI featured Samantha St. Croix (goal), Jessi Couto, Emily Costello, Lauren O’Donnell, Berkley Hughes-Lambkin, Kiera Grein, Laura Gibson, Mariah Sidwell, Sabrina DeNard, Tiffany Johnston and Giula Geraci. London’s three alternates were Samira Somer, Cassidy Wuytenberg and Maria Nelms.

Before this year, Scarborough GS United won the Ontario Cup women’s provincial championship seven years in a row from 2013 to 2019, also winning the national title in 2018. There was no Ontario Cup women’s provincial championship in 2020 or 2021 on account of the global pandemic. North London Galaxy, meanwhile, were the Ontario Cup winners in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2012, also winning the national title in 2012 when Emily Costello was named Most Valuable Player at the Jubilee Trophy finals.

The Saturday 10 September Final was played at the Ontario Soccer Centre in Vaughan, Ontario. The Ontario Cup men’s provincial championship will be played on Sunday 11 September.
