July 2012: Canada gains seven points after Centennial draw

Canada improved by 17 points and nine spots on the most recent FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings published on 4 July 2012. The new ranking gives Canada 474 points over the last four years, up from 457 points from one month earlier. Canada was up to 68th on the global ranking while it remained ninth amongst all CONCACAF nations.

The FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking looks at each country’s international results from the last four years. The ranking takes into account the result, the importance of the match, the strength of the opponent, the regional strength, the time period, and the number of matches per year. Matches played more than a year ago are valued 50% of matches played in the last year; matches played more than two years ago are valued at 30% while matches played more than three years ago are valued at 20%.

The new ranking includes the addition of Canada’s three most recent international matches in June: a draw (0:0 v USA in a Men’s International Friendly match), a win (1:0 win over Cuba in FIFA World Cup Qualifiers) and a draw (0:0 v Honduras in FIFA World Cup Qualifiers). Canada’s two victories from June 2008 (both over St. Vincent & the Grenadines in FIFA World Cup Qualifiers) are no longer counted on the ranking.

The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published on 8 August 2012.
