Jessie Fleming and Kadeisha Buchanan win FA Women’s Cup

On Sunday 14 May, Chelsea FC won their third consecutive FA Women’s Cup in a 1:0 victory over Manchester United FC at Wembley Stadium, in front of a record-breaking domestic women’s match attendance of 77,390 fans. The match featured Canadian midfielder Jessie Fleming as a starter and center-back Kadeisha Buchanan as a substitute. Chelsea has lifted the FA Women’s Cup five times since joining the competition 22 years ago- the first time being in 2015.

This marks Buchanan’s first trophy with Chelsea FC after joining in the summer of 2022, while Fleming has contributed to all three consecutive FA Women’s Cup wins to date for the club. This also marks the fifth consecutive year a Canadian has helped lift the FA Women’s Cup after Janine Beckie’s back-to-back wins with former club Manchester City (2019-20, 2020-21).

Fleming, from London, Ontario has made 115 international “A” appearances for Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team. She was 14 years old when she made her debut in the Canadian youth program and 15 years old when she played her first international “A” match on 15 December 2013. She was the second-youngest person to play for Canada.

Buchanan, from Brampton, Ontario has made 131 international “A” appearances for Canada Soccer’s women’s National Team. She was 14 years old when she made her debut in the Canadian youth program and 17 years old when she made her debut for Canada on 12 January 2013. She was the first Canadian to win a UEFA Champions League Final.
