Janine Beckie became the first Canadian player to score in
\u200bthe Women’s FA Cup when Manchester City FC won their second consecutive
\u200bdomestic Cup title on 1 November 2020. Beckie, who entered the match as a late
\u200bsubstitute in extra time, helped seal the 3:1 victory over Everton at Wembley
\u200bStadium.
Beckie became the second Canadian player to feature in a
\u200bWomen’s FA Cup Final when she entered the match in the 119thminute.
\u200bBeckie, who joined Manchester City FC in August 2018, was also part of the
\u200bclub’s 2019 FA Cup victory, but did not feature in last year’s final. Before
\u200bBeckie, Desiree Scott featured in the 2015 FA Women’s Cup Final for runners up
\u200bNotts County.
On the Beckie goal, Georgia Stanway provided the assist as
\u200bBeckie made her way into the box. Beckie then fired her low, right-footed shot
\u200bpast the goalkeeper Sandy MacIver. Stanway had previously scored the game
\u200bwinner in the 110thminute while Samantha Mewis scored Manchester
\u200bCity’s opening goal in the 40thminute. Everton’s Valérie Gauvin
\u200bscored the 1-1 equalizer in the 60thminute.
Beckie is the second player from Canada Soccer’s Women’s
\u200bNational Team to win a domestic Cup title in Europe this year. In August,
\u200bKadeisha Buchanan won the Coupe de France with FCF Olympique Lyonnais.
