Heroes celebrated at The Hall of Fame Banquet

Canadian soccer legends and heroes were celebrated on Sunday night at The Soccer Hall of Fame Class of 2015 Induction Banquet.

The six persons honoured were Jim Brennan, Kara Lang, Pat Onstad, the late George Anderson (pioneer award), Jim Hubay, and the late Johnny Kerr. The two teams were Montréal Carsteel FC (Organization of Distinction) and Canada’s 1998 CONCACAF Women’s Championship team (Team of Distinction).

“From the community leaders who altered the landscape of the Canadian soccer scene, to the teams and athletes who rose to the top of their profession on the national and international playing fields, they have all had a tremendous impact,” said Canada Soccer president Victor Montagliani.

This was the 16th class honoured by The Soccer Hall of Fame since the inaugural class in 2000.

Brennan (2000), Onstad (2000), and Lang (2010) were all CONCACAF champions with Canada’s national team. Anderson, meanwhile, was one of Canada’s earliest internationals, also a Dominion champion with the Westminster Royals. Hubay was a leader in youth football in Canada while Kerr was a leader for professional players in North America, both with the old NASL and Major League Soccer.

Emcees for the evening banquet were Gerry Dobson and Craig Forrest.
