Governance and Organizational Progress Voted in at Canada Soccer’s Annual Meeting of the Members
Canada Soccer’s 2025 Annual Meeting of the Members (AMM) was held this past weekend in Niagara Falls, ON., and the gathering of provincial and territorial leaders together with representatives from MLS clubs, CPL, NSL, referees, coaches, and national team players ushered new bylaws and membership changes.

New Members Added
All six Northern Super League Clubs were unanimously welcomed into membership:
- Vancouver Rise FC
- Calgary Wild FC
- AFC Toronto
- Ottawa Rapid FC
- Montréal Roses FC
- Halifax Tides FC
New Bylaws Approved
An updated set of by-laws was adopted by the membership, representing a significant step forward in further improving the governance of Canada Soccer. These by-laws strengthen the process for vetting candidates for Board of Directors positions, enhance independent oversight of organizational compliance, and contain several other changes that modernize governance practices. In addition to being approved by membership, the updated Canada Soccer by-laws were endorsed by FIFA, Concacaf, Sport Canada, Canadian Olympic Committee, Canadian Paralympic Committee, and Own the Podium. They will be posted online in the coming weeks.
New Board Members Elected
Four Directors were elected, including Orest Konowalchuk in the regional Alberta/Northwest Territories seat, Tara Larsen who will represent the Atlantic provinces, and Michael Downey and Stephanie J. Geosits were elected as independent members.
Konowalchuk resides in Calgary, Alberta and was first elected to the Canada Soccer Board in May 2023. Konowalchuk was recently appointed as a committee member on the CS Audit & Finance Committee and Compensation and Management Development Committee and is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Canada. He brings nearly two decades of senior corporate restructuring, insolvency and turnaround advisory experience.
Larsen, CPA, ICD.D, new to the Canada Soccer Board is a seasoned financial executive with extensive experience in strategic financial management and corporate governance. Currently serving as Chief Financial Officer at both CBCL Limited and Atlantic Integrated Water Utility Consultants since 2013 and 2018 respectively, Larsen has previously held CFO roles at Conquest Engineering Ltd. and served as Director of Internal Audit at Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation.
Downey, former CEO of Tennis Canada and one of the most experienced sports executives in our country joins the Canada Soccer Board bringing with him extensive national and international executive management experience in the sport, beverage and packaged goods marketing industries. From 2014 to mid 2017, Downey served as Chief Executive of the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) based in London, England as well as senior roles with Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment and Molson Sports & Entertainment.
Geosits, a Harvard grad, an experienced executive leader and former journalist was re-elected to the Board. Geosits has worked with prominent sports organizations across North America, and All About Sports consulting in 2019 to support her clients in increasing opportunities and building communities through sport at all levels. She was previously the Executive Director of The Carnegie Initiative for Inclusion and Acceptance in Hockey.
Canada Soccer wants to thank outgoing Board members Dale Briggs and Brian Burden for their many years of service to our sport, and who were honoured at the AMM this past weekend.
New Auditor for 2025
KPMG LLP was appointed as auditor of Canada Soccer, following an extensive and competitive RFP process.
This was Canada Soccer’s 105th AMM since the Association was formed on 24 May 1912, with the first-ever meeting of the Dominion of Canada Football Association held in Winnipeg from 9-13 July 1912.
