    "body": "<p>Forge FC Hamilton have advanced to the 2020 Canadian Championship Final for the first time after finishing first at the Canadian Premier League&rsquo;s Island Games. Forge FC Hamilton will face Toronto FC in the Battle of the North Final for the Voyageurs Cup, with the date and location to be announced at a later stage.</p><p>Hamilton won 2:0 over HFX Wanderers of Halifax in the<br>\u200bCanadian Premier League Final to lift the 2020 North Star Shield. Alexander<br>\u200bAchinioti J&ouml;nsson and Maxim Tissot were the goalscorers, with both goals scored in the second half. Captain<br>\u200bKyle Bekker lifted the trophy for the second year in a row.</p><p>The Canadian Championship is Canada Soccer&rsquo;s highest<br>\u200bdomestic professional soccer competition. This year, 11 professional teams in<br>\u200bthe Canadian Premier League and Major League Soccer will play combined 44<br>\u200bleague matches as qualification to the 2020 Canadian Championship Final.<br>\u200bToronto FC reached the Final for the fifth-straight year after finishing first<br>\u200bamong the three Canadian teams in the first phase of Major League Soccer&rsquo;s<br>\u200brevised league schedule.</p><p>In the<br>\u200bCanadian Premier League Final, Achinioti J&ouml;nsson scored the winner on a header<br>\u200bfrom a Molham Babouli pass. Babouli was selected the Player of the Match.<br>\u200bTissot scored the second goal late with a long shot that tricked the opposing<br>\u200bgoalkeeper.</p><p>Across the 44 matches between the two competitions, the 11<br>\u200bprofessional clubs included more than 150 Canadian professional players in<br>\u200btheir match-day rosters. Sixteen members of Canada Soccer&rsquo;s Referee Program<br>\u200balso spent six weeks inside of the Canadian Premier League&rsquo;s Island Games<br>\u200bbubble in Charlottetown with matches from 13 August to 19 September. Juan<br>\u200bMarquez, Stefan Tanaka-Freundt, Gabrielle Lemieux and Myriam Marcotte were the<br>\u200breferees for the CPL&rsquo;s Final Match.</p><p>Since 2008, Canada Soccer&rsquo;s Canadian Championship has<br>\u200bfeatured 14 different Canadian teams across more than 100 matches. To date,<br>\u200bToronto FC have won the competition seven times, the Impact de Montr&eacute;al four<br>\u200btimes, and Vancouver Whitecaps FC once. From the Canadian Championship, the<br>\u200bCanadian winner qualifies for Concacaf Champions League, which plays into the<br>\u200bFIFA Club World Cup.
