Fleming Re-elected To Two-year Term

Ottawa, Ontario – At its Annual General Meeting held this past weekend at the Nottawasaga Inn in Alliston, Ontario, Jim Fleming of Edmonton was re-elected President of The Canadian Soccer Association for a new two-year term.

“I am honoured to have been given this vote of confidence by the membership at a time when our National Teams are doing so well on the international playing field,” stated Fleming. “While we have accomplished much in the past two years highlighted by our stunning victory at the CONCACAF Gold Cup in February and our sharing first place at the Pacific Cup this past weekend by our women’s team in Australia, we know much work needs to be done. We hope to accomplish our goals of qualifying for all FIFA World Championships and succeeding once there. With internationally acclaimed leaders like Holger Osieck and Even Pellerud leading our teams, the future is an exciting one indeed”

Also elected to the CSA’s Executive Committee were Clive Wilkinson of Ontario as Director; Technical and Angus Barrett of Newfoundland as Director; Competitions. Also elected to the Board of Directors was Stan Adamson of the Toronto Lynx Soccer Club as Director; Professional Soccer.

The AGM dealt with the normal business of the Association while also dealing at length with the recently published “Blueprint for Canadian Soccer – The Road to Success.” The report was received and welcomed by the membership. The primary principles behind the report were endorsed and it was agreed to extend this long term plan for the CSA into a five-year plan until the end of 2005. As a result, further meetings of the Association will be held over the summer to further refine the plan until it is dealt with by a Special General Meeting of the Association called for November 18, 2000.

The next Annual Meeting of the Association is scheduled for Calgary, May 11-13, 2001.
