Five Things to Watch in the 2026 TELUS Canadian Championship Quarterfinals

The race for the Voyageurs Cup resumes this week as eight clubs battle for a place in the 2026 TELUS Canadian Championship Semifinals. As the competition moves forward, the Quarterfinals will be played over two legs, with an aggregate score deciding who moves on to the final four. The winners will also take another step toward earning a place in the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup that is awarded to the competition champion.

1. Two-legged series bring a new challenge

Unlike the single-match Preliminary Round, every Quarterfinal matchup will be decided over home-and-away legs. Clubs will need to balance attacking ambition with defensive discipline across 180 minutes, knowing that every goal could prove decisive.

The Quarterfinal schedule features Vancouver Whitecaps FC against Cavalry FC, CF Montréal against Vancouver FC, Forge FC Hamilton against CS Saint-Laurent, and Atlético Ottawa against Supra du Québec.

2. Whitecaps Enter Quarterfinal Stage

Four-time defending champions Vancouver Whitecaps FC enter the competition for the first time after receiving a bye into the Quarterfinals. Chasing another Voyageurs Cup, the Whitecaps will meet Canadian Premier League side Cavalry FC in a western Canada matchup that features two clubs with plenty of history against one another.

With BC Place unavailable due to FIFA World Cup 2026™, the Whitecaps will host the opening leg at Swangard Stadium before travelling to Alberta for the return match on 13 July .

3. A New Test for Vancouver FC

Vancouver FC earned its Quarterfinal berth by defeating Langley United in the Preliminary Round and now faces one of Canada's most successful clubs in CF Montréal.

Montréal advanced after defeating Calgary Blizzard SC and will look to use its experience to reach another semifinal. Vancouver FC, meanwhile, will look to take advantage of the opportunity to make a statement against Major League Soccer opposition.

4. New faces continue to make history

The 2026 competition has already showcased the growing depth of Canadian soccer, and two emerging clubs will look to continue their runs.

Ligue1 Québec champions CS Saint-Laurent travel to face Forge FC after another strong Canadian Championship campaign, while Supra du Québec has reached the Quarterfinals in its competition debut and now takes on Atlético Ottawa in an all-Canadian Premier League matchup.

5. Two matches from the Semifinals

With eight clubs remaining, the competition now moves into the Quarterfinal stage, where teams will compete for a place in the Semifinals. The winners of each series will advance to the final four, with the ultimate goal of winning the Voyageurs Cup and securing qualification for the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup.

The Quarterfinals feature matchups across the country as Canada’s domestic knockout competition continues with home-and-away series deciding who moves on.
