Edmonton Green & Gold won their third men’s Alberta Cup provincial championship on Monday 5 September with a 2:1 victory over Edmonton Scottish SC. Francesco Guido and Habib Assem were the goalscorers in the victory. The win qualified Edmonton Green & Gold for Canada Soccer’s 2022 Toyota National Championships in Vaughan, Ontario.

For the Monday Final, coach Martin Andersen featured Chris Ezoua in goal, Francesco Guido at right back, Luke Withers and Joel Martins-Correia at centre back, Eric Gehlert at left back, Morgan Graham, Thomas Hope and Ajay Khabra at midfield, and Prince Amara, Ibrahim Jetishi and Garry Onyejelem up front. Rilind Idrizi, Everett Orgnero, Adam Parker, Habib Assem and Jake Bosch featured as substitutes while Alex Dorscheid and Brodie Kazakoff dressed but did not feature. Harkrat Malhi (injured) and Luis Martinez were unavailable for the Final.

This marks the first time that Edmonton Green & Gold have beaten Edmonton Scottish SC in the Alberta Cup final. They beat Calgary Dinosaurs for the 2005 title and Calgary Callies for the 2011 final. Edmonton Green & Gold previously lost the 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2019 Alberta Cup finals to Edmonton Scottish SC and the 2008, 2009 and 2017 Alberta Cup finals to Calgary Callies.

This year will also mark Edmonton Green & Gold’s fifth trip to the Toyota National Championships (2005, 2011, 2015, 2016, 2022). They were national runners up in 2005 at Calgary’s Broadview Park after a 3:2 loss to Scarborough GS United.
