Canada welcomed two new players into its fold this week at the men’s national camp in Sunrise, FL, USA. Joseph Di Chiara and Ashton Morgan both received their first call up from national head coach Stephen Hart, a call up that included an upcoming trip to St. Lucia and Toronto for the present cycle of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
The full team trained as a group on Tuesday 4 October at the Holiday Inn Sunrise. The team travels south to Gros Islet, St. Lucia on Wednesday in advance of the Friday 7 October match at Beausejour Stadium. The team then returns to Canada to face Puerto Rico at BMO Field in Toronto on Tuesday 11 October.
Di Chiara is the first teenager called into a Canadian camp for FIFA World Cup Qualifiers since Jaime Peters received the call in 2004. Di Chiara hails from Richmond Hill, ON, a community in Toronto. He currently plays his professional football in Russia with FC Krylia Sovetov Samara.
Morgan is just a year older than Di Chiara. Morgan also hails from the Toronto region, having made his soccer debut at age four with West End United. Morgan plays his professional soccer with Toronto FC of Major League Soccer.
