De Santis, who played nine times for Canada, has been the head coach of the Montreal Impact since November of 2003. In his first year, he lead the team to a club record of 12 straight games without a loss (8-0-4), and then to the league (A-League) championship in 2004. The same year, he was a finalist in the category of Coach of the Year in the league.

De Santis played 10 seasons for the Impact. In 2003, as assistant coach and player, he helped the Impact win the Northeast Division title, as well as finish on top of Eastern Conference standings and first overall in the league.

Currently, De Santis and the Impact are undefeated in five games (3-0-2) this season.

“I am honoured, and look forward to my duties as Honorary Chair for the FIFA World Youth Championship in Canada,” said De Santis. “It will surely be an exiting time for soccer in Montreal, and across Canada.”

De Santis will join former Canadian International, Craig Forrest as Honorary Co-Chair for the event.
