Cordoba, Nickerson named Nova Scotia’s best

Jhonattan Córdoba and Emily Nickerson have been named Nova Scotia’s Senior Players of the Year. The duo were recognised at the annual Soccer Nova Scotia Night of Excellence in Halifax.

Córdoba of Suburban FC was the Most Valuable Player and Golden Boot winner in the Nova Scotia Soccer League Premiership. The 26-year old midfielder was also named to the league all-star team.

Nickerson of Valley United was the Most Valuable Player in the women’s division of the Nova Scotia Soccer League Premiership. The 21-year old fullback, who currently attends Acadia University, was also a league all-star.

Other award winners in 2016 were Lewis Dye and Sydney Kennedy for Youth Players of the Year, Lindsay Van Kessel, Mike and Maggie Malone for Coaches of the Year, Matt Ayyash for Official of the Year, and Harry Soontiens for S4L Player of the Year. The teams of the year were Dartmouth FC U-14 boys, Halifax County U-18 girls, and Athens United Masters S4L.

The True Sport U-8 to U-12 regional players of the year were Rose MacLeod, Isaiah Dorey, Owen Llewellyn-Brown, Nathaniel Upshaw, Hannah MacDonald, Keiler Colburne, and Alex Russel.

The Regional volunteers of the year were Yann Artur, Heidi McLean, Sharleen Coady-Nielsen, Yves Dastous, Patti Townsend, Alanna Chiasson, and Kristen Gunn.

The 2016 Soccer Nova Scotia Night of Excellence was held 22 November at Mount Saint Vincent University.
