CANWNT to face Costa Rica in June international friendly

Canada set for another international challenge in San José

Canada Soccer and the Costa Rican Football Federation announced today that Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team (CANWNT) will face Costa Rica in an international friendly during the June FIFA international window.

CANWNT will travel to San José, Costa Rica on 31 May for a training camp that will conclude with an international friendly against Costa Rica on Tuesday 9 June at 19:30 local time (21:30 ET / 18:30 PT) at Estadio Rafael “Fello” Meza in Cartago.

Following two consecutive three-match windows earlier this year, beginning with the SheBelieves Cup in March and continuing with the FIFA Series in Brazil in April, the June window will provide additional time on the training pitch as the team continues building ahead of upcoming competitions, including the 2026 Concacaf W Qualifiers in November, which will serve as qualification for both the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027™ and the LA 2028 Olympic Games.

“This window provides an important opportunity for us to spend valuable time together on the pitch and continue building on the work we’ve done to date. Costa Rica is a quality opponent that will present a different type of test and allow us to continue developing as a team as we prepare for the competitions ahead.”

- Casey Stoney, Women’s National Team Head Coach

Canada, currently ranked ninth in the FIFA Women’s World Rankings, holds a perfect all-time record against 42nd-ranked Costa Rica, having won all 18 previous meetings between the two nations. The two sides most recently met in June 2025, when Canada earned a 4:1 victory in the Pride Celebration Match held at BMO Field in Toronto, Ontario.
