CANWNT Roster Revealed for October International Window

Canada Soccer has announced the 24-player roster that will represent the Women’s National Team (CANWNT) during the upcoming October FIFA international window, featuring two high-level away friendlies against top European nations Switzerland and the Netherlands.

The team will open the window on Friday, 24 October against Switzerland (FIFA ranked #24) at the Swissporarena in Lucerne, before travelling to the Netherlands to take on the Dutch side (FIFA ranked #11) on Tuesday, 28 October at Goffertstadion in Nijmegen.

Head Coach Casey Stoney has named a 24-player squad blending experienced internationals and emerging talent. Notably, defender Sydney Collins returns to the squad after more than a year sidelined by injury, while goalkeeper Emily Burns, forward Kaylee Hunter, and midfielder Florianne Jourde receive their first call-ups.

This will mark the sixth all-time meeting between Canada and Switzerland at the Women’s “A” international level, dating back to 2010. Canada holds the advantage with four wins and one loss, with their most recent encounter being at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™ at BC Place in Vancouver, which ended in a 1:0 Round of 16 victory. 

Canada and the Netherlands have a long-standing competitive history, having met 14 times at the Women’s “A” international level. Canada holds nine wins, four draws, and one loss, with their most recent encounter coming at the Tournoi de France in 2020, which resulted in a 0-0 draw.

​Canada’s three goalkeepers for the window are Sabrina D’Angelo of Aston Villa Women, Kailen Sheridan of San Diego Wave FC, and Emily Burns of FC Nantes.

The defenders selected are Ashley Lawrence of Olympique Lyonnais, Shelina Zadorsky of West Ham United FC, Jade Rose of Manchester City WFC, Sydney Collins of Bay FC, Gabrielle Carle of Washington Spirit, Jayde Riviere of Manchester United WFC, Zara Chavoshi from Orlando Pride, and Marie Levasseur of Montpellier HSC.

In midfield, the roster features Jessie Fleming and Marie-Yasmine Alidou of Portland Thorns FC, Julia Grosso of Chicago Red Stars, Emma Regan from AFC Toronto, Florianne Jourde of Paris Saint-Germain, and Kaylee Hunter from AFC Toronto.

Rounding out the squad are forwards Jordyn Huitema of Seattle Reign FC, Adriana Leon of San Diego Wave FC, Nichelle Prince of Kansas City Current, Olivia Smith of Arsenal Women, Janine Sonis from Racing Louisville FC, Evelyne Viens of AS Roma, and Holly Ward of Vancouver Rise FC.

Kadeisha Buchanan from Chelsea FC, Vanessa Gilles from FC Bayern Munich, and Lysianne Proulx from Juventus FC were all unavailable for selection due to injury. ​ Annabelle Chukwu of the University of Notre Dame and Kayla Briggs of Michigan State University were unavailable for selection by mutual agreement with their colleges.
