CANWNT roster announced for home matches against Denmark

Canada Soccer has announced the roster for Canada’s Women’s National Team (CANWNT) October FIFA international window, with Women’s National Team Head Coach Casey Stoney selecting 24 players for Canada’s final preparation window before FIFA Women’s World Cup and Olympic qualification this November.

Canada will face Denmark on Friday 9 October at Stade Saputo in Montréal (19:00 ET / 16:00 PT) in a special Pride Celebration Match presented by Volkswagen Canada, before closing out the window on Monday 12 October at BMO Field in Toronto (15:30 ET / 12:30 PT).

As part of the Pride Celebration Match presented by Volkswagen Canada, fans can expect a special celebration of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community at Stade Saputo, with Canada’s players set to wear Pride-coloured numbers on their jerseys. The match will also feature Pride-themed elements throughout the stadium as Canada and its supporters come together to celebrate inclusion, belonging, and the belief that soccer is for everyone.

The October matches will be Canada’s final international window before the 2026 Concacaf W Championship, where Canada will compete for qualification to both the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027™ and the LA28 Olympic Games.

The roster includes a record six players from Canada’s Northern Super League (NSL), with Marie-Yasmine Alidou of Montréal Roses FC, Melissa Dagenais and Delaney Baie Pridham of Ottawa Rapid FC, and Sabrina D’Angelo, Kaylee Hunter and Shelina Zadorsky of AFC Toronto. Eleven players are currently competing in the NWSL, while 7 are based with clubs in England, France and Germany. Hunter joins the CANWNT directly from the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland, where the 18-year-old led Canada in scoring with four goals, including a hat trick in Canada’s 3-1 Round of 16 victory over France.

The October matches will mark Canada’s return to home soil since hosting Costa Rica in Toronto in June 2025, when Canada earned a 4–1 victory in the Pride Celebration Match at BMO Field.

Canada and Denmark have faced each other six times at the Women’s “A” international level, with Canada holding a 3W-0D-3L record. Their most recent meeting came at the 2017 Algarve Cup in Portugal, where Canada earned a 1-0 victory. Canada is currently ranked ninth in the FIFA Women’s World Ranking, while Denmark is ranked 12th.

Canada will open the 2026 Concacaf W Championship against Panama in the quarterfinals on 28 November in Mansfield, Texas (13:00 ET / 10:00 PT), with a place in the semifinals and automatic qualification for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027™ on the line. The tournament will also determine Concacaf’s qualifiers for the LA28 Olympic Games.

CANWNT SQUAD

Canada’s four goalkeepers selected for this series are Melissa Dagenais of Ottawa Rapid FC, Sabrina D’Angelo from AFC Toronto, Lysianne Proulx of Ipswich Town FC, and Kailen Sheridan of North Carolina Courage.

The defenders selected are Kadeisha Buchanan from Chelsea FC, Gabrielle Carle of Washington Spirit, Sydney Collins of Bay FC, Vanessa Gilles of FC Bayern Munich, Ashley Lawrence of OL Lyonnes, Jade Rose of Manchester City WFC, Janine Sonis of Denver Summit FC, and Shelina Zadorsky of AFC Toronto.

In midfield, the roster features Marie-Yasmine Alidou of Montreal Roses FC, Jessie Fleming of Portland Thorns FC, Simi Awujo of Manchester United WFC, Julia Grosso of Chicago Red Stars, Emma Regan of Denver Summit FC, and Carly Wickenheiser of North Carolina Courage.

Rounding out the squad are forwards Kaylee Hunter of AFC Toronto, Cloé Lacasse of Utah Royals FC, Delaney Baie Pridham from Ottawa Rapid FC, Nichelle Prince of Boston Legacy FC, Olivia Smith of Arsenal W.F.C., and Evelyne Viens of Paris FC.

Jordyn Huitema of Chicago Red Stars and Jayde Riviere of Manchester United WFC were unavailable for selection due to injury. Annabelle Chukwu of the University of Notre Dame was unavailable due to her academic commitments.
