Canada Claims Win and Draw in Final June Window Tune-Ups Before the World Cup Begins at Home

Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team (CANMNT) concluded their FIFA World Cup 2026™ preparations in the June FIFA international window, taking on two strong opponents as part of the team’s Send-Off Series, presented by BMO, ahead of facing Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 12 in Toronto.

Across the window the team earned a 2–0 win over Uzbekistan and a 1–1 draw against the Republic of Ireland, showcasing growing cohesion, resilience, and depth as they build toward the world stage.

Match 1: Canada v Uzbekistan

CANMNT earned a 2-0 win over Uzbekistan in Edmonton on 1 June to open the window, using a strong second-half performance to secure the result. Playing in challenging rainy and windy conditions, Canada grew into the game following halftime adjustments.

Jonathan Osorio opened the scoring shortly after halftime with his 10th international goal for Canada, before Jayden Nelson added a second in stoppage time to seal the victory. ​

Match 2: Canada v Republic of Ireland

CANMNT played to a 1–1 draw against the Republic of Ireland at Stade Saputo in Montréal on Friday night in their final preparation match ahead of FIFA World Cup 2026™. Canada took the lead in the 23rd minute when Stephen Eustáquio’s corner was turned in for an own goal. Ireland equalized shortly after the hour mark, scoring on a rebound after Canada’s keeper Maxime Crépeau saved a penalty. Both teams had chances in the second half, but neither was able to score again as the match finished level.

Looking Ahead

CANMNT now turns its attention to FIFA World Cup 2026™ and matches in Toronto and Vancouver, where they will welcome the world on home soil. The team will face Bosnia and Herzegovina on 12 June (3:00pm ET / 12:00pm PT) at Toronto Stadium, before taking on Qatar on 18 June (6:00pm ET / 3:00pm PT) and Switzerland on 24 June (3:00pm ET / 12:00pm PT) at BC Place in Vancouver.
