Canadian forward Adriana Leon on loan to Portland Thorns

Canadian forward Adrianna Leon has been loaned from Manchester United to the current reigning National Women’s Soccer League champions, Portland Thorns. Leon has been acquired on a short-term loan.

Leon has won an Olympic gold medal, represented Canada at two FIFA Women’s World Cups, and has won three Concacaf medals. She scored her first “A” international goal in her debut match in January 2013 against China and has currently made 96 international “A” appearances, scoring a total of 28 goals for Canada.

“An opportunity was presented to us to bring Adriana to Portland, and we believe this is a move that is beneficial for both the club and Adriana,” said Karina LeBlanc, Thorns FC general manager. “She wants to be here and take advantage of the opportunity in a competitive environment ahead of the World Cup. Adriana has the ability to make an impact as we strengthen this special group with her talent to help continue to push us forward.”

Leon joins Portland Thorns two games into their 2023 season as they are currently tied with San Diego Wave FC in first position. Portland Thorns are the reigning NWSL champions after winning their first NWSL Championship in five years in October. Leon will join fellow current and retired Canada Soccer Women’s National team players such as General Manager Karina Leblanc, captain Christine Sinclair and midfielder Janine Beckie.
