OTTAWA, ONTARIO – FIFA Referee Carol Anne Chenard has been honoured at the “21ième Soirée des Lauréats Montréalais” which recognizes athletes, sports administrators, officials and organisations that distinguish themselves in the area of sports. The event took place on November 3rd at the Chalet du Mont-Royal in Montreal.

The co-honorary presidents were Yvan Delorme (Montreal police chief) and Sylvie Frechette (gold medalist from the 1992 Olympics in synchronized swimming). Over 70 nominations were received with 40 finalists representing 17 different sports.

In the category of Sports Official par excellence Carol Anne found herself against officials from the sports of Taekwondo and swimming. The 29 year old soccer referee was awarded the trophy. This is an outstanding achievement and the award is a clear demonstration of her hard work. She is an ambassador to refereeing and to the beautiful game.

Carol Anne is in her first year as a FIFA referee and has taken charge of the Women’s International match between Canada and China and an exhibition match between Canada and Italy. She regularly officiates in the Men’s USL league and has attended FIFA events in Mexico early this year. Later this week Carol Anne will be officiating in the University Championship Finals in Victoria, BC.

“We are delighted that a Soccer official has been recognized in this way by the Montrealais,” said Director of Refereeing at the CSA Joe Guest. “It acknowledges the immense dedication that officials have to put in to their training and development to reach the highest levels of the game”.
