Canada’s Quarterfinal Live On Sportsnet

Ottawa, Ontario – The Canadian Soccer Association is pleased to announce that Rogers Sportsnet has revised their schedule to broadcast LIVE across the entire network Canada’s Women’s World Cup match against China at 10:30 p.m. (ET)/7:30 (PT) from PGE Park in Portland, Oregon.

​Sportsnet will broadcast both of Thursdays quarterfinal games LIVE beginning with Germany playing Russia at 7:30 pm (ET)/4:30 pm (PT) followed by Sportsnet News then Canada’s match against China.

​Due to programming commitments with Major League Baseball, Sportsnet was originally scheduled to broadcast Canada’s game on a half hour running delay on non digital cable networks.

​“Soccer night in Canada” was made possible through a scheduling change agreed upon by Major League Baseball. The change means that Game 2 of the ALDS between the Minnesota Twins and the New York Yankees will not be broadcast on Sportsnet.

​“The Major League Baseball office understood the importance of this game (Canada vs. China),” stated Dave Akande, Vice President, Programming, Rogers Sportsnet. “The broadcast of this historic match would not have been possible without this understanding. Sportsnet’s coverage of the first two rounds of the Major League Baseball playoffs will continue with two games (San Francisco versus Florida and Atlanta versus Chicago) on Friday.”

​With the 3-1 win over Japan on Saturday, the Canadians (2-1-0) finished second in Group C to become the first Canadian team to make it out of the opening round of a World Cup. China defeated Russia 1-0 late Sunday night to claim first place in Group D.

​Sportsnet will continue the 2003 World Cup coverage throughout the tournament.
