Canada WNT to open 2014 against USA

Canada’s Women’s National Team will open its 2014 schedule against host USA in a Women’s international Friendly match on 31 January 2014. Location and kick off time of the match will be confirmed at a later date.

Canada last faced USA on 2 June in front of a record-setting crowd at BMO Field in Toronto, ON. The clash concluded in a USA win (3:0) over the Canadians.

In the 6 August semi-final of the 2012 London Women’s Olympic Football Tournament, and what quickly became one of the most talked about soccer matches in recent history, Canada offered a courageous performance, taking the lead three times against rival USA. Ultimately, Canada was defeated in the last minute of extra time in a physically and emotionally shattering match before rallying to win the bronze medal against France, capturing the hearts of a nation in the process.

Canada WNT has an all-time record of three wins, five draws and 45 losses in 53 international ‘A’ matches against USA dating back to 1986.

The 2014 Canada-USA match will allow the Women’s National Team to continue its preparation for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015TM.
