    "body": "<p>Portland, Oregon \u0096 Canada&rsquo;s Women&rsquo;s World Cup Team will play the United States in the third place game in Carson, California on Saturday, October 11, 2003 after losing 2-1 to Sweden tonight in the semi-final game in front of a sellout crowd of 27,623 spectators.<br>\u200b<br>\u200b<br>\u200b<br>\u200bAfter 64 minutes of scoreless play, Kara Lang gave Canada the lead on a free kick from 22 yards out that slid through Swedish goalkeeper Caroline Joensson&rsquo;s fingers and off the left post and into the net.<br>\u200b<br>\u200b<br>\u200b<br>\u200bSweden would equalize in the 79th minute when Malin Moestrom found a way past Andrea Neil to barely beat a diving Canadian goalkeeper Taryn Swiatek into the right side of the net from 16 yards out.<br>\u200b<br>\u200b<br>\u200b<br>\u200bThe final blow to Canada&rsquo;s hopes of playing in next Sunday&rsquo;s final match came when Hanna Ljungberg crossed the ball to left side of the net where Josefine Oeqvist was waiting to bounce the ball off the left post into the net in the 86th minute.<br>\u200b<br>\u200b<br>\u200b<br>\u200b\u0093I have no complaints with the result or with the team&rsquo;s performance,\u0094 said Head Coach Even Pellerud. \u0093It was an end to end game and Sweden created a few more chances.\u0094<br>\u200b<br>\u200b<br>\u200b<br>\u200b\u0093I am extremely proud of the girls, they showed heart and desire,\u0094 added CSA President Andy Sharpe.<br>\u200b<br>\u200b<br>\u200b<br>\u200bIn the earlier match of the double header, Germany advanced to the final after defeating the United States 3:0.
