Ottawa, Ontario The Canadian Soccer Association today announced its Women’s World Cup Team will face Nigeria in a two game series on April 18th and 20th, 2003 at the University of South Carolina, USA.
Nigeria will be in the United States in advance of their international match against the USA on April 26, 2003.
I am very delighted to have two more international A’ matches versus another very strong women’s national team to further assist us in our preparation program for China 2003, said Head Coach Even Pellerud.
Canada has only played Nigeria once since 1986, in a 3:3 draw at the 1995 in the World Cup in Sweden. Current national team player Silvana Burtini scored twice for Canada in that match.
Nigeria is among the 11 national teams who have already qualified for the 2003 Women’s World Cup. Nigeria qualified in December, 2002 for when they won the 3rd African Championship for Women’s Football.
Canada is scheduled to play the South Korea on June 18th and June 20th in Toronto and Montreal before playing Mexico on August 31st and September 4th in Edmonton and Vancouver before leaving for the Women’s World Cup in China.
