Just two days after the two sides met in the CONCACAF final, Canada and the United States have announced they will meet in an international friendly in Washington, DC. The Americans have invited Canada’s women’s national team to their capital city for a 10 May friendly at RFK Stadium (19.00 local kick off).

Canada and the United States recently played to a 1:1 draw in the 12 April CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualification Tournament final. The U.S. finished first in the tournament after winning 6-5 on penalties. Three nights earlier on 9 April, both Canada and the United States qualified for Summer Olympics by winning their semi-final matches in Cuidad Juarez, Mexico.

“It was one of our best games that we have ever played against the United States,” said coach Even Pellerud. “This was an international match of a very, very high standard.”

Canada, whose title sponsor is Winners, will be competing in the 2008 Women’s Olympic Football Tournament in Beijing from 6-23 August. It will be Canada’s first entry in the Olympics in 24 years and first ever for the women’s program.
