Canada’s women’s national team will face Ghana tomorrow in their second game at the FIFA Women’s World Cup China 2007. The match will be played at 17.00 at the Hangzhou Dragon Stadium and will be televised live on CBC (4.45 ET or 1.35 PT).
Both Canada and Ghana lost their opening match of the tournament, so a victory is of the utmost importance. Canada lost 1:2 to Norway (Norge) while Ghana lost 1:4 to Australia. This will be the second-ever meeting between Canada and Ghana, although the first at a FIFA competition.
“We need to stop the passes and be deep enough so that we avoid too many connections to (their) two fast strikers,” said coach Even Pellerud. “They are a big threat, so we need to be aggressive in midfield stopping too many easy passes to them.”
Canada is taking part in its fourth-straight FIFA Women’s World Cup. The team plays its first two matches in Hangzhou and then heads to Chengdu for the third game against Australia. The top-two teams in Group C advance to the quarter-finals.
