Canada Soccer joins Canadian Paralympic Committee
Both Canada Soccer and Canadian Powerlifting Union were added as new members for 2020.
“Canada Soccer has a strong commitment to athletes of all abilities and welcomes the opportunity to become a member of the Canadian Paralympic Committee,” said Steven Reed, Canada Soccer President. “We look forward to continuing to build on an exciting Para Soccer National Team program while strengthening our ties to the Canadian sport community through our membership to the Canadian Paralympic Committee.”
Canada Soccer’s
Para Soccer National Team ranked 12thin the world last year at the
IFCPF World Cup in Spain. Led by Head Coach Drew Ferguson, the program has a
strong blend of established stars and emerging young talents in the program.
Just last year, the Para Soccer National Team played their milestone 100thinternational match.
“We have a strong
foundation with some established stars as well as some exciting new players
coming through the system,” said Drew Ferguson, Canada Soccer’s Para Soccer
National Team Head Coach. “We are very positive looking forward as we continue
to build around players like Sam Charron, who was last year’s Best Player at
the IFCPF World Cup, and Damien Wojtiw, the Golden Glove winner at the 2018
Copa América.”
Canada’s Para
Soccer National Team competes in several global competitions over a four-year cycle,
including the International Federation of CP Football’s biennial World
Championships. The sport features seven-a-side football for players with
cerebral palsy or recovering from stroke or brain injuries.
