Canada Soccer congratulates Jason deVos on appointment to Toronto FC

Canada Soccer’s interim general secretary, Jason deVos, will depart the Federation on January 12, 2024. As announced by Toronto FC, deVos will be taking on the assistant head coaching duties, alongside John Herdman.

“For three decades, Jason has proudly represented Canada as a player and in his role as Director of Development at Canada Soccer. From captaining our Men’s National Team as they were crowned champions at the 2000 Concacaf Gold Cup, to coaching positions with our men’s and women’s national programs, to his impact in the area of development, Jason has made a tremendous contribution. On behalf of all of us, we thank Jason for his passion for the game — on and off the pitch — and for his leadership as the interim general secretary the past eight months. We wish him the very best in his new coaching role at Toronto FC.”

deVos, a Canada Soccer Hall of Fame, made his international debut for Canada in 1997, and has a total of 49 caps, scoring four goals during his career. He has represented Canada in 11 FIFA World Cup qualification matches, and captained the Men’s National Team from 1999 until his retirement from international soccer in 2004. deVos was named a tournament all-star for both the 2000 and 2002 Concacaf Gold Cup tournaments, in which Canada placed first and third respectively. He scored the winning goal in the final of the 2000 Gold Cup — Canada’s last piece of hardware at a men’s major international competition.

deVos will be conducting a full transition of his responsibilities prior to his departure. Alyson Walker was named Canada Soccer’s new General Secretary last month and will officially commence her new role on January 22, 2024.
