Canada Soccer announces plans for second national Masters Championship

Canada Soccer has confirmed plans for a second edition of a national Masters Championship as early as spring 2027. On the heels of the first national Masters Championship in 2025, Canada Soccer will work collaboratively with its Member Associations in the Fall of 2026 to determine a new format and competition cycle for the Masters division.

The Fall 2026 planning session will help determine hosting guidelines, potential competition and match formats, player eligibility, as well as learning and interaction opportunities for players within the Canadian soccer community.

Manitoba Soccer hosted the first-ever national Masters Championship in October 2025. That competition featured 16 teams with an even field of eight amateur men’s teams and eight amateur women’s teams. The eight men’s teams qualified from a group of 79 Masters teams competing across eight provinces while the eight women’s teams qualified from a group of 17 Masters teams competing across seven provinces.

Saskatoon YXE FC won the first men’s Masters Championship while Calgary Blizzard SC won the women’s Masters Championship. In all, 28 matches were played across four days in Winnipeg, Manitoba from 2-5 October.
