Canada Soccer has announced that the 2021 Futsal Canadian
Championship scheduled to take place in May 2021 has ben cancelled due to
health and safety concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2020 edition
was also cancelled due to the suspension of sanctioned soccer in March 2020 as
coronavirus public safety measures were instituted.
Launched in 2015 as the highest domestic futsal competition
leading to international competition, the Futsal Canadian Championship has
grown from a two-team tournament in 2015 to include seven Member Association
representatives from Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Manitoba, Yukon
and Nunavut. Nunavut’s participation for the first time in 2018 was a milestone
for the territory as it was the first-ever National Championships participation
for the Member Association.
Ontario’s Toronto Idolo are the back-to-back defending
champions having won the 2018 and 2019 editions of the Futsal Canadian
Championship. Quebec’s Sporting Outlaws were the 2017 champions and
participated in the 2017 Concacaf Futsal Club Championship in Honduras. Toronto
United Futsal won the competition in 2016.
Futsal Club Toronto won the inaugural competition in 2015 after having
participated in the 2014 Concacaf Futsal Club Championship.
